Fall Season’s Greetings, mighty traceurs and traceuses.
Parkour in the Park is expanding to Ft. Worth and beyond! In addition to the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of every month in Dallas, Parkour in the Park will now be held every Sunday in Ft. Worth at the Ft. Worth Water Gardens from 11am to 1pm.
In addition, the Dallas Parkour in the Park will soon begin changing locations from one month to the next. PKnP Dallas will still be held at Robert E. Lee Park during October but will probably move to another Dallas location in November. We’ll keep you posted by way of newsletter as well as on the Parkour in the Park Facebook page.
For those wanting to learn parkour or improve their parkour skills, we are sponsoring a bi-weekly parkour and freerunning clinic on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of every month from 11am to 1pm at Elite Champion Gymnastics in Plano. All ages are welcome and the clinics run from 11am until 1pm. Suggested donation of $15 person. You'll be sure to come away inspired and more able-bodied than before. Focus will be on technique and conditioning and will be taught by several of Texas' finest, including Jenin "Beast" Gonzalez and Justin "Bull" D'Avila from PK O.U.T. Go to www.pkout.com to see bios and videos of the guys.
Come out and play!
What?
Parkour in the Park is a parkour instructional class for everyday people combined with an entertaining free running exhibition performed by some of the best free runners in Texas. Parkour and free running are often confused for being the same thing but in fact they are not. Parkour is a selfless and utilitarian philosophy and discipline intended to prepare people for heroic action when emergencies arise. The movements in parkour are always intended to be efficient and speedy, with the goal of getting from point A to point B as quickly as possible. Parkour does not involve the added twists and flips and other fancy or stylistic movements that free running does. Parkour is NOT a sport, but more of a fearless and altruistic state of mind. David Belle is credited as the Founder of Parkour. Free running, on the other hand, is like an artistic sport, with the objective being the expression of freedom and personal style. Many traceurs also enjoy free running, but many free runners are not also traceurs. Understand?
Both parkour and free running utilize natural and man-made features of the cityscape to leap, climb, swing, balance, and vault over.
Come and participate or just watch. You're sure to be entertained and enlivened by the experience. Be sure to bring sun protection and comfortable active-wear. Running shoes are recommended.
